Expansion of AI in Documentary Film Production — Goethe-Institut

A session of the 'Dimarts de vídeo' series at Arts Santa Mònica (Barcelona) in which Anna Giralt Gris and Jorge Caballero present Artefacto —their research and production centre— and their expanded-cinema work with artificial intelligence. Under the motto 'I wanted to make a meme and ended up with a film essay', they explore the tension between rigorous artistic creation centred on AI and computational cinema and the pursuit of virality of our time. The session includes screenings of 'Membrana, volume I' —a film essay based on Jorge Carrión's novel— and '#', a generative video experiment.

An online session of the DocuPro programme at Docudays UA (Ukraine) with Anna Giralt Gris and Jorge Caballero, co-founders of Artefacto. Drawing on concrete case studies, they address what AI can bring to archive work, research, restoration, transcription and search; its use in pre-production and production —translation, subtitling, voice-over, dubbing—; and the legal and ethical stakes (rights, transparency, energy footprint). Followed by a Q&A.

Artefacto's participation in Getting Real '26, IDA's (International Documentary Association) biennial conference on the art and industry of documentary filmmaking, at the JANM Democracy Lab in Los Angeles. Two activities: the workshop "AI Tools for Documentary Production" (Jorge Caballero and Anna Giralt Gris), on how filmmakers build —not just use— their own AI tools through "vibecoding"; and the panel "Past the Panic: What Really Matters in AI & Documentary" (with Kat Cizek from MIT Co-Creation Studio, shirin anlen from WITNESS, Anna Giralt Gris from Artefacto and A.X. Mina), on how AI is really being integrated into documentary beyond the panic.
