About us
We are a center for research, production, and innovation in film and technology.
Founded by Anna Giralt Gris and Jorge Caballero (PhD), we are based in Barcelona and have global collaborative networks. We promote the critical and creative use of technology, with a focus on cinema and artificial intelligence.
With a solid trajectory in film production, our works have premiered and received awards at festivals such as TIFF, NYFF, IFFR, SXSW, Tribeca, IDFA, HotDocs, DOCNYC, and CPH:DOX, among others.
Through an experimental and interdisciplinary approach, we develop new methodologies and computational tools using AI for cinematic creation. We connect the academic, artistic, and professional worlds to research these methods from a critical perspective and produce independent cinema.
We maintain partnerships with universities such as BAU, UAB, and ESCAC, as well as strategic collaborations with companies like Hugging Face, Flora, and Runway. We are also part of the MIT AI + Documentary working group.
We have presented talks about our working philosophy and conducted workshops using our own tools at San Sebastián, IFFR, the Marché du Film in Cannes, the Goethe Institut, Media Desk Europe, the National Film School of Denmark, the Netherlands Film School, among many others.
We coordinate the Master’s program in AI applied to Film, Storytelling, and Audiovisual Production at BAU.
Our principles for responsible AI
For more than 10 years, we have been researching the impact of AI on cinema and creative processes. For us, artificial intelligence is a tool that allows us to expand the capabilities of creators, never to replace them. We create projects and design solutions that respect the creative process, protect privacy, and are mindful of their environmental impact.
01. Human Decision
We set the direction and make the final decisions. AI supports the creative process; it does not lead it.
02. Traceability
We document every use of AI: which tools, which models, for what purpose, which text prompts, and references. All processes are documented following the highest standards of quality and accountability. We can explain and justify any result.
03. Rights
We actively protect the rights of the people who participate in our projects. No voice, image, or creative work is used without explicit permission. We respect the legal and moral rights of each person and commit to going beyond what the law requires to maintain trust and fairness.
04. Labor Impact
We do not use AI to displace human work without first evaluating how it affects roles, compensation, and responsibilities.
05. Ethical Limits
We do not recreate people, events, or sensitive situations without real evidence and a clear protocol that justifies it.
06. Energy Efficiency
We only use AI when it provides real value. We prioritize lightweight models and avoid unnecessary computation.
07. Open Formats
We work with systems that allow exporting, migrating, and reusing materials without restrictions.
